OVC faculty and staff talk about what makes our college unique.

Oak Valley College is guided by a group of Christian professionals seeking to give back to the local community through education.  Our sole purpose is to educate the next generation of young leaders to prosper and fulfill the Great Commission.  We believe this can, and should, be accomplished through a purpose-driven life in the professions.  Whether that is serving a business, ministry, or nonprofit, we believe that students who are well-educated with a broad Christian liberal arts education will contribute to their family and community.  Furthermore, through business education, we are committed to provide students with highly sought after skills in disciplines like economics, accounting, finance, marketing, project management, and related disciplines. 

Eric-Blum

President

Eric Blum, MPA - President Blum guides and manages the day-to-day operations of the College, including implementation of the mission, vision, and values throughout the College. President Blum earned his graduate degree from the University of Washington and his BA in Government, Politics, Philosophy, and Ecnomics from Claremont McKenna College.  Mr. Blum has more than 20 years of administrative experience in higher education including leadership positions at the University of Redlands. UC, Riverside, and UCLA.  Eric attends Active Church, serves as Chair of the Barnabas Group Inland Empire, and leads a Free Wheelchair Mission team on trips to Jamaica (www.jamobility.org).

Executive Vice President and Professor of Business

Mark Leonard, MBA - Vice President Leonard leads a number of strategic initiatives for the College and directs the creative side of the Business major at the College. He teaches entrepreneurial thinking through several courses Marketing, Ideation, and Design Thinking courses, which help students consider creative solutions to common business challenges and opportunities. VP Leonard earned his MBA from California State University, San Bernardino and obtained his BA in Music Education from the University of North Dakota. Mr. Leonard spent the early part of his professional career teaching music in public and private schools. He has worked in marketing for more than a dozen years in a variety of industries including non-profit, education, manufacturing, and healthcare. Mr. Leonard founded a consulting firm in 2011 specializing in marketing and strategic planning. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Inland Empire Barnabas Group, Oak Valley College, and previously for the Inland Empire chapter of the American Marketing Association. Mr. Leonard is a leader in his local church in Redlands, The River Christian Reformed Church.

Afarah Board, MBA - Dean Board brings with her a background of over thirty years of experience in the corporate world as a senior leader and multiple years of experience teaching as Adjunct Professor at California Baptist University in the School of Education and School of Business. She earned her graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of Redlands in Business, and business studies at Harvard Kennedy School and Pepperdine University. We welcome Dean Board to the Oak Valley family.

PRofessor of Theology and Faculty Chair

Terry Morrow, PhD – Professor Morrow oversees the theology courses and integration of theological concepts across the curriculum. Professor Morrow began full-time ministry in 1984. He is the long-term pastor of Hillside Community Church in Wrightwood, CA, where he has led the church through growth and extensive building projects. He earned his BA from Corban University, MA from Simpson University, and PhD in Theology from Trinity Theological Seminary. He is the author of seven books on how the believer is to walk by faith and in the truths of God’s word. His purpose statement for both his personal life and that of his staff and church is: “We exist to empower people to passionately live out their love for Jesus.” Terry and his wife, Patti have been married for over 40 years. They have two grown children and 7 grandchildren.

Director of Career Services

Gregg Simmons, MAEd – Director Simmons guides students through their career planning process. Mr. Simmons works one-on-one with students and offers training and workshops to help them plan for their future after college. He earned his graduate degree at San Diego State University and his BS in Business from the University of Redlands. Mr. Simmons is a career coach and consultant with decades of experience working with students and athletes. Mr. Simmons helped establish a career resource and counseling center for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

Admissions Counselor

Amber Lesseg - Ms. Lesseg serves as an Admissions Counselor, supporting students through the application process and speaking on behalf of the college at various churches and schools. She sits on our Admissions Committee, reviewing all aspects of the application and interviews prior to acceptance. Amber attended Crafton Hills College, studying Early Childhood Education, and has served faithfully in various ministries including international non-profit ministries in Mexico, Japan, Ghana, and Russia focusing in children’s and youth ministry. She became an advocate for foster and adoptive youth while leading the Heritage Ministry at Radiant Church and becoming licensed foster parents.

Before Oak Valley College, Ms. Lesseg built a home based business and lead more than one hundred consultants as a Sr. Sales Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics. She has a passion for connecting with people and encouraging them to be all God has called them to be. She currently leads in worship ministry and children’s ministry at Foothill Bible Church where she attends with her husband and two daughters.

Admissions Counselor

Alisa Prox - Ms. Prox came to Oak Valley in 2018 and supports Admissions. She is a seasoned missionary having served in several oversees missions. She has a heart to serve and support young people. She is also a realtor having recently obtained her real estate license.

Registrar

Pauline SoriaDPA - Ms. Soria oversees academic records and student academic affairs for the College. She is completing her DPA and has earned her MPA in Public Administration - California Baptist University and BS in Workforce Education and Development - Southern Illinois University.  Ms. Soria has served as a Communications Officer with the Riverside County Sheriff for the past two decades. In this capacity, she serves as a trainer and educator for department staff. 

 

Director of Institutional Research and Accreditation Liaison Officer

Betty Crocker, MSEd - University of Redlands.  Betty consults and guides institutional research and the accreditation process.  This integral position serves as lead counsel on accreditation matters with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
