Rent a room to an Oak Valley College Student

Oak Valley College serves a number of first generation Christian college students with modest means.  As you know, housing in Southern California is expensive.

We seek Christian families near Colton to rent a room to a student.  This program is adapted from a very successful program at another Christian college, where families rent to students year after year and both the students and families report building wonderful, often lifelong, relationships.

We ask families to charge $200-$300 per month to rent a private room (bed, dresser, closet, desk) with access to shared bathroom/living area, kitchen, and laundry.  Rental agreements would be month-to-month starting the end of August and would be executed with the family and renter (Oak Valley College would refer the student).  Oak Valley College runs year-round, so students would engage in an annual rental agreement.  Renewal of the agreement is not required, so families could opt-out of the program at the conclusion of any annual agreement.

Students should be treated as adults and should be held to biblical expectations for conduct and respect.  There is no expectation to "adopt" the student.  The family and student would determine how best to set boundaries and limits.  We have model documents and standards for families to consider.  You should also review rental information from the State of California -www.dca.ca.gov/publications/landlordbook.

Some families may be willing to provide some meals, which is optional, and we suggest $100 per month for 4-5 dinners per week.  Additional options are welcomed, but not customary.

What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe - as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.
